Favourite Music Video

Favourite Music Video

Ayo - Chris Brown and Tyga

I really like this music video as it shows a story at the beginning and around the middle of the song, the beginning story shows Chris Brown's and Tyga's fame and the second story shows a police officer being annoyed at the two men for not being at 'community service'. They are two of my favourite artists, therefore it has an influence as to why I like it. The music video includes animals such as tigers, which makes it more aesthetically pleasing for the audience to watch. The words of the music video are explicit.

My Final Piece - Music Video

My final piece - Music video

Poster for the artist (digipak)

Poster for the digipak

Below is a screenshot of my poster on photoshop including the layers. I decided to make the background of the poster made up of five different panoramic sceneries (desert, snowy forest, rainforest, city and a busy road), I did this to show that the artist is going to be worldwide. I added a galaxy image over the five pictures, then I changed the opacity to a lower level so the five images were coming through the galaxy image. I added a picture of a panda face as my artist is called 'Pandaman' and a picture of a panda is their star image. As this poster is an advertisement, I had to include many features such as, the release date, the image of the digipak, and also the record company. These features had to be included because it shows when the digipak will be out and what it will look like, so people can purchase it.
I used the stencil std for the 'Pandaman' font, I then wanted to make the font a little bit different, so I got the smudge tool and smudged the edges of all the letters, this made the font look fuzzy and almost fluffy. I added a iTunes logo, to show that the music album and the music video will be available on iTunes. I also thought it was useful to add a barcode to scan, as someone could scan the code and it would lead them to the music album online.

I added a quote from Kiss FM, as this is a well known radio station and they have given a good review, people would be more likely to buy it.

As this poster is for a house album, it would be best if this poster was seen in the 'MiXMAG' magazine, this is a magazine which writes about many different house artists, and seeing as my artist is a house artist, the poster would be best suited to go into this magazine. This is a British house magazine, however it can also be accessed on a smartphone. It was launched in 1982, the magazine covers dance events, and reviews music and club nights

CD Holder (Digipak)

CD Digipak
I used a template from school for the layout of the CD holder, for the background of the holder I decided that I wanted to continue the black and white theme, therefore I found an image of a black and white galaxy. Following this I found an image of a panda with a colourful mouth; I thought that this image would go well with the theme of the music. To make it more interesting I used 4 pandas of the same size in each corner to give a better effect. As you can see in the bottom image I did not use many layers as I did not need many images to achieve the finish that I wanted.

CD Lyric Book (Digipak)

CD Lyrics Book

My lyric book follows the theme of the CD front and back as it is black and white. However instead of doing black roses, I chose to get a picture of an isolated street in the winter. I added an image of a walking panda and to make it more effective I added an image of a man with a lead. I then edited them together in order to give it the effect that a man is walking a panda on a leash. This can also be seen as making a statement towards the artists name 'Pandaman'.

CD Back (Digipak)

CD back for the digipak

The back of my CD digipak is also inspired by the Chase and Status : No More Idols album. This side of the digipak is similar to my front cover as they both have the roses as the background and the red bold writing. Firstly I added a black and white water droplet image, this was because there would be gaps between the roses and I wanted another image in the back, so you did not see a white background. The roses I chose to use were also not an original image, I used a different image compared to the front cover. I made the opacity of the roses slightly lower, as I wanted the images of the water droplets visible. I used the red bold writing as I wanted the digipak to have a theme throughout. However instead of having plain red writing, I added an outer glow around the writing, this is so it is less harsh to the eye. I added a barcode, as this is an important feature to a CD back as the customer has to scan the product to buy it. I also added a 'Available on iTunes' image, this is to show people that the CD and digipak will be available to purchase on iTunes.

CD Front (Digipak)

CD front of my digipak

I attempted to recreate a similar version of the Chase and Status album cover for my one. I did this by having the black and white images and then having the artist name and album name in a bright bold colour. I really liked the chase and status album and as they have the same genre of music as my artist, I thought that it was acceptable to have a black and white album cover as other artists have done this. As the album is black and white with an animal, it almost shows that the artist does not want to reveal their true identity. I chose to have my animal be a panda, as my artist is called 'Pandaman'.  I did not use original images for this as, I could not get a shot of an angry panda, and I did not use original images of roses as I they were not as good as I wanted them to be for my album cover. They quality of the images were not as great as I wanted them for the cover. I used the font 'stencil std' as it is bold and stands out well. I used the colour red as it is bold and easily visible over the black.

Practising Photoshop

Practising Photoshop

To learn how to use photoshop, I did an exercise where I used skills that were needed in order to make my own digipak and poster for my artist.
I started by finding images off the internet, the images I chose for this exercise was a picture of Beyonce and a picture of the galaxy. It is best to find an image of an artist with a plain background so it is easy to cut the background out. I placed the galaxy image onto photoshop and made it smaller to fit the screen how I wanted it to look. I then placed the picture of Beyonce onto photoshop, to be able to cut the background out, I had to change the mode to 'RGB Color'.

Then I used the 'Magic Wand Tool' to highlight the areas I wanted to cut out, then simply pressed the backspace button to erase them. Following this, I dragged the image of Beyonce onto the galaxy tab, adding her onto another layer and placed her in the area I thought was best suitable. I then created text to go onto the images. I did this by clicking on the tool with the 'T', I then moved the move into the place where I wanted the text to be and then dragged in the desired place to get the right size of the text box. Typed in 'Beyonce' and then my practise Front Cover was done.

Conventions of a magazine advert

I looked into many magazine adverts, for example, Beyonce's, Jessie J's and Katy Perry's. They all had many things in common, which I think are the typical conventions of a magazine advert.

  • They all includes th artist image, as they are promoting the artist and the audience need to know what artists album they are buying.
  • They included the release date of the album and some mentioned that you may pre-order the album in order to definetly get it on the day of the release.
  • They included the record company that is signed to the specific artist.
  • The name of the artist, this is usually bigger than any other writing on the advert to promote the artist.
  • They includes an 'Available on iTunes' logo.
  • Some included quotes of the music album from well known company's, for example, a radio station.

Researching Magazines

Researching Magazines

As my poster would be displayed in magazines, I carried out research into women, men and music magazines, to see which would be the most appropriate.

For the male magazines I chose to research, Men's Health and Muscle and Fitness. For the Woman's magazines I chose to research Glamour, Heat, OK and Cosmopolitan. For the music magazines I chose to research Mixmag, Mojo and Billboard.

I think that it would be most suitable for my poster to be featured in a music magazine, as it is promoting an artist and their music.

Original Images

Original Images

For my digipak, it was more appropriate to include original images along with pictures off the internet. I have taken pictures of lily's, as I though that the shape of the flowers was nice and the angle that I took the pictures would be perfect for the corners of my digipak.

I chose to take pictures of two different flowers as I was not sure what ones would look best with my digipak.
