Storyboard

Story board

I made a storyboard to show what shots I am going to film and where each of the titles will go. In my story board it is clear what distributors I would be using for my film. This exercise helped me when I had to edit my final piece as I knew how to use the editing program. For my final piece I changed the shots I was doing and in my story board you can see that there were going to be six characters. I decided to only have one character in my title sequence as I wanted to slowly reveal the other characters during the rest of the film instead of introducing them all at once. I changed the location of where I was going to film as I wanted to add more mystery into my title sequence in order to make it more interesting. It would be a lot harder finding a good time to film in a park as they are usually busy and other people could accidentally be in my shots.

Evaluation

Life On Mars

Life on Mars - Preparation for foundation production

For this exercise Daisy Hill and I took a clip from 'Life on Mars' and we recreated all the shots. We had to look at all the shot and look closely at how long each of them was filmed for and then film them for the same amount of time. We filmed a variety of shots such as a tracking shot, establishing shot, close ups, high angle shot. We used a programme called 'Final cut express' to edit all the clips, we cut all the clips and we added transactions such as cross dissolve so the video would run smoothly and so the clips wouldn't have a harsh cut in between each of them.

The programs we used were Final cut express and iMovie to upload our work onto the computer.

To do this exercise we used a digital video camera with a memory card, a dolly and tripod. We used a dolly to film a 360 degree shot. We moved around the school to find suitable places to film are shots. Through this exercise I learnt how to use a dolly and how to film different shots, I also learnt how to use Final cut express. Doing this exercise has helped me as I'll known how to use these programs for my coursework.

Choosing the titles

Titles

For my film opening I decided to write all the titles in 'Avenir Next Medium'. I used this font as I think that it is aesthetically pleasing and looks nice to the eye. It is plain and works well with all my shots. For the majority of the titles I used a capital letter and then lower case for the rest of the letters, however for the title of the name of the film, I used capitals for the whole thing. I did this so the writing would stand out from all the other titles. The colour of all my titles is 'Snow White', this is because my shots are quite dark and if i used any other colour the writing would clash with the shots. As I used white, the writing stands out well but also you are able to focus of the shots as the writing is not harsh on the eye.

These are the fonts that I was choosing from, in the end I decided to go with Avenir Next Medium as I thought it was most suitable for my title sequence.

Film Opening

Film Opening - Behind Closed Doors

The name of my film is 'Behind Closed Doors'. My film opening is 1 minute and 52 seconds. The audience gets a hint of what the genre will be like as of the mystery and suspense in the opening. This is created through the character looking back, thinking that he is hearing noises behind him. As the character runs when the shot of 'The laurels' comes up, this also creates suspense as it makes the audience wonder what is behind the closed door.
